‘The Good Life' is an exhibition in the Arnolfina arts Centre (Bristol) based on a proposal by the Belgian artists Katleen Vermeir and Ronny Heiremans, in collaboration with 51N4E - Office for Architecture (Brussels), Justin Bennett, Amir Borenstein, Mieja Hollevoet, Pierre Huyghebaert, Eric Jooris and Carly Wijs. The proposal is unequivocal: transform the former warehouse into luxury residential units and sell them off. The artists have developed a concept that eloquently frames 51N4E's radical architecture and titled this all-embracing proposal ‘The Good Life'. They are working on this project with a creative team brought together for the occasion. They take their cue from the famous art historian John Ruskin ("We should generally add to ‘old buildings' with a boldness of the best of our ancestors, leaving another layer for our successors to inherit.") and theatre icon Bertold Brecht ("One must live well to know what living is.")
From 10 April to 7 June in Arnolfini, 16 Narrow Quay, Bristol BS1 4QA UK. Open Tues-Sun, from 10am to 6pm.
